Artist: Brooks and Dunn
Album: Reboot
Label: Arista/Sony Music Nashville
Release date: April 5, 2019

Word came out yesterday that Brooks and Dunn have been back into the recording studio- this time with friends- and will be releasing a new project titled Reboot in the coming months.

Kacey Musgraves, Kane Brown, Thomas Rhett, Brett Young, LANCO, Ashley McBryde, Midland, Luke Combs, Brothers Osborne, Cody Johnson, Jon Pardi and Tyler Booth are among the artists taking part in the project.

"This whole experience has been humbling to say the least. What a cool rush to hear somebody do one of your tunes in a unique way, and it still holds up, said Ronnie Dunn in a statement. Thats the greatest compliment you can get as an artist. People used to ask us all the time about the legacy we wanted to leave, and its honestly just that you hope the music stands up over time. This is the first opportunity weve had to run it up a new flagpole...and it really flies.

Theyre making their own music, Kix Brooks added about the Reboot guest list. But just like we did, they still remember and respect the music they grew up with. It makes you feel good that these acts were inspired by us in some small way.

Brooks & Dunns music absolutely had a tremendous impact on me, said Luke Combs. To me, they invented that foot stomping, driving sound. And its so cool that this has turned into such an awesome album, with artists that actually grew up listening to Brooks & Dunn. Their music was so influential to us that having the chance to come in and bounce ideas off the guys and sing with them in the studio was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Ive never really sung in the studio with someone else, especially not with someone whose voice is as good as Ronnies, said Kane Brown. For him to be looking at me on the other side of the glass, and both of us singing, it was just awesome. It felt like we just got comfortable around each other, so we were really able to kill it.

A preview of the album on iTunes shows Combs collaborating with the duo on "Brand New Man," while Brown joins them for "Believe." Reboot will be Brooks & Dunns first studio album since Cowboy Town in 2007. Since parting ways in 2009, Brooks and Dunn have embarked on solo projects. In 2011, Dunn released his self-titled solo album, which included the singles "Let the Cowboy Rock," "Bleed Red," and "Cost of Livin'." Brooks released his solo album New to This Town in 2012. Since 2014, the duo has performed a series of Las Vegas shows with Reba McEntire.

That Nashville Sound Saturday Newsbytes - New Albums From George Strait, Aaron Lewis, Jack Ingram & More

Posted: 02 Feb 2019 08:31 AM PST

This week was probably the most profound combination of new album announcements in many moons. Don't let the country music charts fool you, traditional country is alive and well based on all of these forthcoming albums.

King of Country Music George Strait announces today his brand-new album Honky Tonk Time Machine due out Friday, March 29 on MCA Nashville. Comprised of 12 original titles plus Straits version of the Johnny Paycheck classic Old Violin,Honky Tonk Time Machine marks an incredible 30th career studio album for Strait. Strait, who produced the album alongside Chuck Ainlay, wrote eight of the 13 tracks including Sing One with Willie featuring Willie Nelson that the pair happily debuted at a recent Nashville show marking the first time the two country icons have ever shared the stage.

Im really excited to have some new music coming out, shares Strait. Its been about two years since Ive released a record. It was great writing with Bubba and Dean again and creating such a beautiful song with Bubba and Jeff Hyde. Also, it was a very special thing for me to be able to write and sing one with the legend Willie Nelson. I hope everyone enjoys listening to Honky Tonk Time Machine as much as I enjoyed making it.

1. Every Little Honky Tonk Bar Written by George Strait, Bubba Strait and Dean Dillon
2. Two More Wishes Written by Jim Lauderdale and Odie Blackmon
3. Some Nights Written by Bubba Strait, Brice Long and Phillip White

5. Blue Water Written by George Strait, Bubba Strait and Dean Dillon

12. What Goes Up Written by George Strait, Bubba Strait and Jeff Hyde
13. Sing One with Willie (featuring Willie Nelson) Written by George Strait, Willie Nelson, Bubba Strait and Buddy Cannon

According to Rolling Stone, former Stained frontman Aaron Lewis will release his third full-length country album, State I'm In, on April 12 via Big Machine imprint Valory Music. The follow-up to 2016's Sinner was produced by Buddy Cannon and it features 10 tracks, six of which were written or co-written by Lewis. Songwriting collaborators on the disc include Dan Tyminski, Keith Gattis and Waylon Payne. The album's first single, "The Bottom", launched yesterday. The self-proclaimed "Northern Redneck" achieved critical and commercial success with his last album.

"My music is very first person, very autobiographical," said Lewis. "It's from my life experiences that I draw inspiration for my songs."

Tracklist:
1. The Partys Over | Aaron Lewis
2. Cant Take Back | Aaron Lewis, Ira Dean, Dan Tyminski
3. Reconsider | Charlie Brocco, Keith Gattis
4. It Keeps On Workin | Aaron Lewis, Ira Dean, Chris Wallin
5. State Im In | Aaron Lewis
6. God And Guns | Aaron Lewis, Bobby Pinson
7. Love Me | Aaron Lewis
8. If I Were the Devil | Houston Phillips, Trent Tomlinson
9. Burnt the Sawmill Down | Jim Elliot, Keith Whitley
10. The Bottom | Waylon Payne

Few detail have been released on the upcoming March 29th release from Jack Ingram calledRidin' High... again, but it is on pre-sale on Amazon and i-Tunes. Having gotten to know Jack a little bit, however, through him being our generous host several years for my Golf & Guitars Music Festival, we can piece together a couple of unique tidbits on the project. First, it is being released on his own Beat-Up Ford Records. Secondly, he's great pals with friend Matthew McConaughey, which make the first song on the album unique as that's his buddies most famous conversational tagline. Track four was made famous by his longtime friend and mentor Guy Clark (and then covered famously by The Highwaymen) and track ten is a dedication to Clark himself. Track 7 is his own version of the Song of the Year that he co-wrote with collaborator Miranda Lambert. And lastly, track 13 was the name of Kris Kristofferson's fourth album and a track "owed" to John Prine.

Jack has always forged his own path with his music, letting his muse guide his way. Even when he was on the Big Machine record label out of Nashville, his projects had heart and substance- covered in his own fingerprints. Since going the independent route again, that muse has become far more personal and introspective and I for one, can't wait to hear the new project.

Tracklist:
1. Alright Alright Alright
2. Don't It Make You Wanna Dance
3. Staying Outta Jail
4. Desperados Waiting for a Train
5. Where There's a Willie
6. Gotta Get Drunk
7. Tin Man
8. Down the Road Tonight
9. Never Ending Song of Love
10. Sailor & The Sea
11. Everybody Wants to Be Somebody
12. Shooting Stars
13. Jesus Was a Capricorn

And last but not least, it looks like William Michael Morgan has (unfortunately) been dropped by the Warner Nashville music label. His debut single "I Met a Girl", reached number two on the Country Airplay chart and number eight on the Hot Country Songs chart in October 2016. His debut studio album Vinyl as released in September 2016. That project was outstanding as has been the many samples that he has been teasing on YouTube. Hopefully, a label will scoop him up soon.

Write You a Song Podcast Launches - An Interview With Songwriter Brett Warren

Posted: 30 Jan 2019 06:24 AM PST

That Nashville Sound has something new for its readers this morning, a contribution from a friend and longtime veteran in the country music industry. This morning we share a new podcast from host Tom Mailey from Bonneville radio station New Country 105.1 KNCI in Sacramento. Tom is a country radio veteran with over 30 years of experience in Seattle and Sacramento and a key partner in our Golf & Guitars Children's Charity Music Festival, a little event in our twelfth year that has raised well north of a million bucks for kids and individuals with disabilities. It highlights the songwriters in our industry and is entitled Write You a Song.

It's his hope that this podcast will shine a little overdue spotlight on the talented men and women who, mostly behind the scenes, write the songs that become part of our lives. You know their words and music, but maybe not their names: Write You a Song will feature some of country musics biggest songwriters--like Jeffrey Steele, Brett Warren, Tim Nichols and more.

In our first episode, Tom talks with Brett Warren, one half of the hit song writing duo The Warren Brothers, who came to Nashville to be country stars but ended up becoming one of the most successful songwriting teams of the last decade.

Huey Lewis & The News Prep Spring Release Of First Album of All-New Material Since 2001

Posted: 22 Jan 2019 05:26 AM PST

Grammy award-winning, chart-topping rock and rollers Huey Lewis and the News have signed a new recording agreement with BMG to release their forthcoming 10th studio album in spring 2019. Following their last album release in 2010, a Stax/Volt tribute album, the upcoming studio album is the bands eagerly awaited first set of all new original music in 18 years.

Entering their 39th year together, Huey Lewis and the News contagious brand of music has outlasted countless trends and is as fresh today as ever. They incorporate a variety of musical influences including R&B and soul to create their own unique sound. Formed from two rival Bay Area bands in 1979, they continue to thrill audiences worldwide, selling over 20 million albums in the process, earning them the right to mark their place on the pop history map.

The new album announcement casts some hope that the hearing challenges that Lewis was facing this past year might be behind him. Less than a year ago, Lewis was forced to cancel a 40-date tour after experiencing sudden hearing loss. I havent come to grips with the fact that I may never sing again, Lewis told the Today Show in May. Im still hoping Im gonna get better. They say a positive attitude is important. Doctors believe that he is suffering from Menieres, which causes severe disorientation, feelings of intense vertigo and hearing loss. Lewis first experienced the symptoms at a show in Dallas last March. As I walked to the stage, it sounded like there was a jet engine going on, he said. I knew something was wrong. I couldnt find pitch. Distorted. Nightmare. Its cacophony.

Lewis said, "Were very excited about our new album, and honestly feel that its among our best work we cannot wait to get it out to fans! Were equally excited to be with BMG, whose reputation as a music-first label precedes them admirably."

John Loeffler, EVP, Marketing & Repertoire, New York, said, In the time weve grown closer with Huey and the band it became clear that this is a perfect match. Were thrilled to welcome Huey Lewis and the News and proud to call BMG their new label home. We look forward giving the band more opportunities to take advantage of all we have to offer and working alongside them to develop some new creative endeavors.

Huey Lewis and the News are Huey Lewis (vocals and harmonica), Johnny Colla (saxophone, guitar and vocals), Bill Gibson (drums, percussion and vocals), Sean Hopper (keyboards and vocals), Stef Burns (guitars and vocals) and John Pierce (bass). The live show features their long-time horn section of San Francisco bay area luminaries including Rob Sudduth (tenor saxophone), Marvin McFadden (trumpet), and Johnnie Bamont (baritone saxophone).

Steve Earle To Release Album Dedicated To Mentor Guy Clark In March

Posted: 10 Jan 2019 06:09 AM PST

Artist: Steve Earle & The Dukes
Album: Guy
Label: New West Records
Release date: March 29

Steve Earle & The Dukes have announced that their new album Guy will be released by New West on March 29.

A sequel to his 2009 album Townes, on which he covered the songs of Townes Van Zandt, Earles new effort comprises 16 songs by his other songwriting mentor Guy Clark.

No way I could get out of doing this record, says Earle. When I get to the other side, I didnt want to run into Guy having made the Townes record and not one about him.

Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark were like Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg to me. When it comes to mentors, Im glad I had both. If you asked Townes what its all about, hed hand you a copy of Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee. If you asked Guy the same question, hed take out a piece of paper and teach you how to diagram a song, what goes where. Townes was one of the all-time great writers, but he only finished three songs during the last fifteen years of his life. Guy had cancer and wrote songs until the day he died When he was sick he was dying really for the last ten years of his life he asked me if we could write a song together. We should do it for the grandkids, he said. Well, I dont know at the time, I still didnt co-write much, then I got busy. Then Guy died and it was too late. That, I regret.

Guy was produced by Earle and recorded by his long-time production partner Ray Kennedy. The Dukes on this record include Kelley Looney on bass, Chris Masterson on guitar, Eleanor Whitmore on fiddle & mandolin, Ricky Ray Jackson on pedal steel guitar, and Brad Pemberton on drums & percussion. Guy also features guest appearances by Emmylou Harris, Rodney Crowell, Terry Allen, Jerry Jeff Walker, Mickey Raphael, Shawn Camp, Verlon Thompson, Gary Nicholson, and the photographer Jim McGuire.
